The Staycation Series: Three Sisters Springs

Hiiiiii friends!!

I’m back with another installment of The Staycation Series! I began this series three years ago… But I’ve failed horribly at documenting the fun things to do here in Florida. There’s so much to do all year round! It would be a sin not to take advantage of what I have right in front of me.

AND since Ms. Rona (the Coronavirus) swooped in and ruined all of our international summer travel plans, I’ve got some fun activities in Florida… That aren’t the typical day at Disney World! But, if you want to check out Disneyland in California once they open, I got you, boo! There's a blog post for that too! ;) Now, back to Florida... If you live out of state and want to brave the germs, you can find an affordable flight OR take a road trip down to the sunshine state without breaking the bank.

Last year, my best friend, Jaylen, her boyfriend, Ryan (Remember them from my Bermuda trip blog post?), and I went on a kayaking adventure at Three Sisters Springs in Crystal River, Florida. It's only about an hour and a half north of Tampa.

How I lived in Florida for eight whole years and never went kayaking once, I will never know. I’ve wanted to go for the longest time, but something else always came up.

We originally planned to go to Weechi Wachee Springs State Park… Just because that’s the one we saw all over Instagram. But the day before we planned to go, I went online to see if I needed to reserve a kayak and they were all sold out. My feelings were so hurt. I contacted my friend, Sam, who goes kayaking all the time. I knew she’d have an idea or a suggestion to help us out— And she came through! Shout out to you, Sam! She recommended that we go to Three Sisters Springs and we had a BLAST!

We rented our kayaks through Hunter Springs Kayaks and I would highly suggest them. Everyone on their staff was extremely pleasant and helpful. This was our first time kayaking and we didn't know what to expect, but all of the gentlemen who assisted us from the person in the front office who showed us the safety video, to the man who helped us with our kayaks in the water were knowledgeable and made us feel comfortable. The kayaks were clean, the price was affordable, and they even provided us with a map and told us exactly where to go to possibly see manatees-- Which we did!

It was a beautiful, hot, sunny day—Perfect weather for kayaking. We kind of just followed the other people who seemed like they knew where they were going. Lol! We had a few drinks and enjoyed the scenery.

The water was so clear and beautiful! We even saw a manatee swim directly under our kayak.

Sidenote: How adorable is Jay's accent?! I miss her terribly!! Eventually, we got to a shady spot where everyone got out and started swimming…

Now, if you know me, you know how I am about nature. I’m not an outdoorsy person AT ALL. I was terrified that a sea snake would get me or a manatee was gonna come eat me… They aren’t violent and don’t eat people. Yes, I’m extremely dramatic. Lol.

Jay and I finally mustered up the courage to get out and swim. I’m so glad we did. It was so serene and relaxing. The water was kind of cold but we got used to it. 10/10 would recommend! I’ll definitely be going back!

Have you all ever been kayaking? What are some other fun activities to do this summer? What do you have planned? Leave me a comment!

See you next week for part three of The Staycation Series! :)
